Mount Rushmore National Memorial featured heavily in the movie plot of National Treasure - Book of Secrets.
Scenes were filmed on the boardwalk stairs of the Presidential Trail at Mount Rushmore and on the main viewing platform at night. In the movie the actors climb a long staircase to reach a spot above and behind the famous heads, which is not accessible to the public.
While some liberties were taken in the geographic placement of a lake directly behind the heads on Mount Rushmore, visitors can enjoy the actual Sylvan Lake location in nearby Custer State Park.

Mount Rushmore is south of Rapid City and Keystone on Highway 16A. Sylvan Lake is located within Custer State Park on Highway 87 near the area known as the Needles. Both areas are accessible year-round.
