Scotland: OutlanderMidhope Castle: Lallybroch
Midhope Castle is certainly a worthy contender for most iconic Outlander location. Standing in as Lallybroch Castle - the home of the Frasers - Midhope features heavily in seasons 1 and 2. In real life, the castle dates back to the 15th century, but only the exterior has remained intact. The interior is derelict and off limits.
Access to Midhope is controlled by the Hopetoun Estate which means that visitors must adhere to some guidelines and obtain a vehicle pass. The last few hundred metres to the castle have to be undertaken on foot, but it is a fairly short and flat walk.
Season 1, Episode 12: Lallybroch
Jamie takes Claire to his family home of Lallybroch, where he clashes with his strong willed sister Jenny. Taking up his role as laird, he disrupts the household until Claire sets him straight. After Jamie narrowly avoids a run-in with passing redcoats, he and Jenny make amends.
