United States: JokerThe Joker Stairs
No doubt about it, Joaquin Phoenix's performance as Arthur Fleck (aka the Joker) is mesmerizing. One scene in particular perfectly epitomizes his personification of the villain: the little dance on the stairs when Arthur Fleck celebrates his alter ego as the Clown of Crime.
Located in the Bronx at 167th Street, what used to be a simple shortcut for locals has turned into an Instagram hotspot. What's more, many of the fans turn up in costume. Check out some of our favourites reenactments below (fans on the left, the 'real' Joker on the right).
About the story:
Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks - the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
The stairs connect the Shakespearean and Anderson Avenues at West 167th Street, Bronx, New York.
