England: Harry PotterThe Reptile House at London Zoo
The Reptile House at London Zoo has a long-standing history, like the zoo itself, which has been open to the public since 1847. The Reptile House's key exhibits include the Philippine Crocodile, the African Bullfrog, the Axolotl and the Caiman Lizard, to name just a few.
And then, of course, there are the snakes.
The Reptile House features in a lengthy scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The Durselys, Harry Potter's foster family, take their son Dudley to the zoo on his 11th birthday. While Dudley quickly gets bored of the snakes, Harry lingers in front of the enclosure with the Burmese Python and suddenly realises that the snake understands every word he says.
