The Cuan

Northern Ireland: Game of ThronesThe Cuan: Feast like a King

Experience

"The Great Hall of Winterfell was hazy with smoke and heavy with the smell of roasted meat and fresh-baked bread.” - George R.R. Martin A Game of Thrones.

The Game of Thrones-themed banquet at The Cuan has a great atmosphere, recreating the feast that welcomed King Robert, Queen Cersei, Joffrey and their entourage when they made the visit North to ask Ned Stark to become the ‘King’s Hand’. While the full set-up is usually for parties of 40 or more, a mini banquet is also available for 10 to 18 people.

Want to know what you might be served? Here's the delicious-looking menu:

“They ate oaten porridge in the morning and pease porridge in the afternoon”

“Guests gorged on cod cakes and winter squash”

““Hungry again?” he asked.  There was still half a honeyed chicken in the centre of the table.  Jon reached out to tear off a leg”
“Ben Stark laughed. … He snagged a roasted onion, dripping brown with gravy, from a nearby trencher and bit into it. It crunched.”

“… and afterwards bowls of iced blueberries and sweet cream”
“[Sansa] drank a glass of buttermilk and nibbled at some sweet biscuits as she waited.”

In case you don't have the numbers for a banquet feast, you can always opt for the Winterfell Dinner and B&B option: Choose the star’s room that you would like to sleep in, enjoy a menu inspired by the popular foods of Winterfell and wake up to a unique Winterfell breakfast.

“There was much more than Catelyn asked for: Hot bread, butter and honey and blackberry preserves, a rasher of bacon and a soft-boiled egg, a wedge of cheese, a pot of mint tea. And with it came Maester Luwin”. A Game of Thrones – George R.R. Martin

In 2016, guesthouse owners Caroline and Peter were approached by Tourism Ireland, who had commissioned ten intricately carved wooden doors made from the wood of fallen trees from the Dark Hedges. Known as the 'Doors of Thrones', each of the doors tells a unique story from an episode in Season 6 of Game of Thrones. Have a look under the video tab to watch how the door for the Cuan was crafted.

The details are amazing and fans are encouraged to visit The Cuan and see the craftsmanship involved in their creation.

Host

The guesthouse The Cuan in the picturesque seaside village of Strangford not only has a 200 year old history - it was also the temporary home for the core cast of GoT's Season 1, including Sean Bean (Ned Stark), Mark Addy (King Robert), Lena Headey (Queen Cersei), Jack Gleeson (Joffrey Baratheon), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark).

The Guesthouse owners, Caroline and Peter McErlean, were able to watch some of the filming and became increasingly intrigued with the show.
