Northern Ireland: Game of ThronesBinevenagh: Dothraki Grasslands
Binevenagh marks a 6 mile plateau with a steep cliff face, stretching across the Magilligan peninsula. It's not hard to see why this stunning landscape has been declared an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Our tip: Hike up to the summit from Leighry Road on a 4,5 kilometre trail through forest and up to the cliff past the nature reserve.
The cliffs of Binenvenagh form the iconic backdrop for the scene in which Daenerys Targaryen, after having been rescued from the pits of Meereen by her dragon Drogon and taken into the wilderness, is surrounded by a massive horde of Dothraki horsemen and taken as a prisoner (Season 5, Episode 10: Mother’s Mercy).
At the start of Season 6, Daario Naharis and Ser Jorah Mormont are searching for their queen far and wide. They finally come upon the tracks of the Dothraki khalasar and amidst the churned earth find a ring that belongs to Daenerys (Season 6, Episode 1: The Red Woman).
